How to upgrade from the Undergraduate Plan to the Student Plan in BioRender

If you're currently subscribed to BioRender's Undergraduate Plan and need publishing rights for scientific journals, upgrading to the Student Plan is the best next step. 

Option 1: Upgrade at the end of your current billing cycle

1. Set your current Undergraduate Plan to cancel at the end of its billing cycle.
2. Once your plan expires, your account will automatically downgrade to BioRender Basic (our free version).
3. After the downgrade, you can upgrade to the Student Plan from within your account settings.
4. We recommend updating your role to "Graduate Student" to ensure correct subscription matching.

Option 2: Upgrade immediately

1. Contact BioRender Support to request an upgrade.
2. Confirm that your current subscription is the Undergraduate Plan.
3. Choose your preferred Student Plan billing cycle:
   • Monthly: $19.95 USD/month
   • Quarterly: $68.00 USD/4 months
   • Annual: $180.00 USD/year
4. With your permission, Support will:
   • Cancel your Undergraduate Plan immediately
   • Provide a prorated refund for any unused time
   • Downgrade your account to BioRender Basic
5. Once downgraded, you can re-upgrade to the Student Plan directly within the app.

Can I publish in scientific journals with the Undergraduate Plan?

No. To access publishing tools, please upgrade to the Student Plan.

Will I lose any of my saved work during the downgrade to BioRender Basic?

Your content and files remain secure. When you downgrade, you will have limited access of your most recent files until you upgrade once again.

How quickly can I start using the Student Plan?

Once payment is completed, the upgrade is active immediately.
