BioRender automatically saves your illustration every few seconds, ensuring that your work is continuously backed up. However, you can also manually save your illustration at any time to confirm that all changes are stored.

Option 1: Auto-save feature

  • BioRender automatically saves your illustration every few seconds.
  • A confirmation message will appear at the top-left of the canvas, stating: "Last saved a few seconds ago."
  • This message also appears each time your illustration is auto-saved.

Option 2: Manually save your illustration

To manually save your work:

  1. Click File in the top menu.
  2. Select Save from the dropdown menu.
  3. A confirmation message will appear at the top-left of the canvas.

Alternatively, you can use these keyboard shortcuts for a faster manual save:

  • Mac: Press Command + S
  • Windows: Press

Tip: Even though auto-save works in the background, manually saving can provide extra reassurance, especially before closing your project.

You can check when your illustration was last saved by looking at the "Last saved" message near the "Help" option in the top menu. This message updates automatically to show the time elapsed since the most recent save.
