Naming files in BioRender is essential for staying organized and collaborating effectively. Descriptive file names improve search-ability, make it easier to share content, and help collaborators quickly identify the purpose of a file.
Rename a file from the gallery
- Navigate to your Gallery.
- Hover over the file you want to rename.
- Click the three dots (•••) at the bottom of the file preview.
- Select "Rename" from the dropdown menu.
- A pop-up will appear where you can type in the new name.
- Press Enter or click Save to apply the new name.
Rename a file from the illustrator (editor)
- Open the file you wish to rename.
- Locate the file name at the top of the editor, next to the Gallery tab.
- Click on the name (e.g., “Untitled”).
- Enter your desired file name.
- Press Enter to save the change.

Tips for effective file naming
- Use clear and specific names (e.g., “Cell_Signaling_Pathway_v2”)
- Avoid vague names like “Untitled” or “Figure1”
- Use underscores (_) or dashes (-) instead of spaces for compatibility
- Include version numbers or dates for version tracking (e.g., “Lung_Diagram_2024_08”)

Can’t rename the file?
- Ensure you have edit access to the file.
- Try refreshing your browser or reloading the app.
