To continue supporting this growth and investing in the tools you rely on, we are updating our Basic (Free) plan.
What's changing on October 9, 2025
Starting October 9, 2025, the editable file limit for the Basic (Free) plan will change from five to three editable illustrations.
- Only your three most recently edited figures will remain editable.
- Any additional files will be safely saved in your account as preview-only unless you upgrade to a paid plan. Upgrading to a paid plan restores editing access to all your files and provides unlimited editable illustrations.
These changes enable us to keep investing in features that make it faster and easier to learn, discover, and communicate science while still offering a free option for those getting started.
For Premium Users
These updates will not affect you as a BioRender user on a premium plan, unless you choose to downgrade to the free plan.

Frequently asked questions
Will my existing files be deleted?
- No, your files will not be deleted. Any illustrations exceeding the three-illustration limit will be saved but will be preview-only. You can regain editing access by upgrading your plan.
What happens if I downgrade from a paid plan to a free plan?
- When you downgrade, you will be subject to the new three-editable-illustration limit. Only your three most recently edited figures will remain editable; any additional files will become preview-only.
Why are you making this change?
- This update enables us to continue developing powerful new tools like Graph and Poster Builder, along with new AI-powered features, ensuring we can support the scientific community as it grows.
