How to create and manage your BioRender community profile and templates

Your BioRender community profile allows you to share your illustrations publicly and let others use them as templates. Gain recognition for your work and contribute to the BioRender library.

How to create your community profile

To create a community profile, you must be a verified BioRender user and have a verified email address.

1. Go to your account dropdown and select "Set up community profile."

2. Follow the prompts to fill in the required information, including:

    • Your username

    • Information about yourself

    • Links to your social media accounts (optional)

3. Click "Go to my community profile" once you have completed the setup.

4. You will now be able to view your profile as it appears to the BioRender community.


How to update your profile details

Your community profile is where other users can learn more about you and your work. You can easily update your avatar, username, bio, and social links at any time.

Follow the steps below to make changes to your community profile:

  1. Click on your account dropdown menu.
  2. Select "View community profile".
  3. Under your name and avatar, click "Edit Profile".
  4. You will be taken to a new page where you can update:
    • Your avatar
    • Username
    • About Me section
    • Social media links
  5. After making your changes, click Save Changes

How to upload an avatar to your account:

You can personalize your profile with a BioRender avatar! Choose from one of our pre-made avatars or upload your own.

  1. Click your name in the top-right corner and click Account.
  2. From the Profile tab, click the + sign on the circular photo.
  3. To upload your own avatar, click Upload from computer and find the image. You can upload PNG or JPG files.

How to publish or unpublish illustrations to your community profile

Want to showcase your work and inspire other scientists? You can publish your BioRender illustrations as community templates from your profile, templates gallery, or while sharing a figure. Templates submitted will be reviewed by the BioRender team before becoming publicly searchable in the Community Template Gallery.

You can publish templates using three different methods:

1. Publish from the Templates Gallery

  1. Go to the BioRender Templates page
  2. Click Submit a template
  3. In the modal, click Continue
  4. Select the file you want to publish
  5. Add relevant details (e.g., title, description)
  6. Agree to the terms and conditions
  7. Your figure will be:
    • Added as a template to your community profile
    • Sent for review by the BioRender team
  8. You’ll receive an email with updates and next steps

2. Publish from your community profile

  1. Go to your community profile
  2. Click Add Template
  3. In the modal, click Continue
  4. Select a file and fill in the details
  5. Agree to the terms and conditions
  6. Your figure will be:
    • Added to your profile as a template
    • Sent for review
  7. You’ll receive an email notification with further updates

3. Publish while sharing a template

  1. Begin the sharing process for any figure
  2. Select Add to community
  3. In the modal, click Continue
  4. Select a file and enter the details
  5. Agree to the terms and conditions
  6. The figure will be:
    • Published on your profile
    • Sent to the team for review
  7. You’ll receive a confirmation email with next steps

How to unpublish a Template

You can unpublish templates using one of two options:

Option 1: Keep the template private but not publicly available

  1. Go to your community profile
  2. Click the More button (…) on the template
  3. Select Unpublish from the dropdown
  4. Confirm the action in the pop-up modal

Option 2: Delete the template entirely

  1. Go to your personal gallery
  2. Delete the template file
  3. Confirm that you also want to unpublish it from your community profile and public gallery

Who can see my published templates?

  • Before Review: Templates are visible only in your community profile
  • After Review: Templates will be publicly searchable in the Community Template Gallery and visible to other BioRender users
