Exporting a high-resolution file when DPI is greyed out

If the DPI (dots per inch) setting is greyed out, it is because your figure’s dimensions are set in pixels rather than inches or centimeters. Since DPI represents the number of dots (or pixels) per inch, you must define dimensions in inches or centimeters to adjust the resolution.

How to change the resolution

To enable DPI adjustments and export your file in high resolution, follow these steps:

  1. Open your figure in BioRender.
  2. Navigate to the Export settings.
  3. Change the dimensions from pixels to inches or centimeters.
  4. Once the units are updated, the DPI option will become available.
  5. Select your desired DPI setting (e.g., 300 DPI for high-resolution images).
  6. Click Export to download your high-resolution file.
