This article covers common reasons why exported illustrations may appear blurry and provides guidance to improve image resolution. BioRender figures are rasterized images, meaning their print quality depends on resolution, and zooming in too far may cause pixelation.
Causes of blurry illustrations
Blurriness in exported illustrations can often be due to:
- Using a BioRender Basic account, which limits export resolution options.
- Exporting images with insufficient pixel dimensions causes a loss of detail and clarity, especially when scaled up.
How to improve image quality
To increase the pixel size and improve the clarity of your illustration, follow these steps:
- Select your illustration from your gallery.
- Click on the Export button in the top right corner.
- In the export dialogue box, change the dimensions from "in" to "px" to adjust pixel settings.
- Increase the width and height dimensions to a larger size, like 3000 W x 2078 H (or as needed).
- Click Export to download your illustration with improved pixel dimensions.
If your image still appears blurry:
- Ensure you have selected the highest available resolution during export.
- Check if the application you’re viewing the image on supports the chosen resolution.
