Why is my exported illustration blurry?

Important Note: BioRender figures are rasterized images. The print quality of rasterized images scales proportionately with resolution, but there is a limit to the amount you can zoom in on a figure before pixelation is visible.

An exported illustration may appear blurry due to a variety of reasons. An image may appear blurry if you are using a BioRender Basic account with limited export resolution options. Another common reason is that the pixel size of the illustration is too small, which can result in a loss of detail and clarity when the image is scaled up. It's possible that the pixel size of the illustration needs to be adjusted.

To modify the pixel size of your illustration, you can follow these steps:

  1. Select the illustration from your gallery page.
  2. Click Export in the top right corner.
  3. In the export dialog box, change the dimensions from "in" to "px."
  4. Increase the width and height dimensions to the desired size, like 3000 W x 2078 H
  5. Click Export.
  6. Your illustration will now be downloaded with the higher pixel size which should improve the clarity of your image.

If your illustration is still blurry after export, please contact our support team via the chat box in the bottom right corner or email us at support@biorender.com.
