Currently, all exports from BioRender (PNG, JPEG, and PDF) are provided in standard RGB color space, which is ideal for screens and digital sharing. Although there is no built-in option to convert your figure to CMYK within the platform, you can convert your figure with the right tools.
How to convert your BioRender figure to CMYK
Export your figure from BioRender in either PDF, PNG, or JPEG format.
Open the exported file using external design software that supports color mode conversion (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Affinity Designer).
-
Convert the color mode to CMYK:
In Photoshop: Go to "Image" > "Mode" > "CMYK Color"
In Illustrator: Go to "Tools" > "Print Production" > "Convert Colors" > "Color Type" > "CMYK Color"
Check for color shifts: Some RGB colors may not convert perfectly to CMYK. Adjust brightness or saturation if needed to preserve clarity.
Save or export the converted figure as a CMYK-compatible file (e.g., TIFF, EPS, or PDF, depending on your journal’s requirements).
Confirm that your converted file meets your journal’s submission guidelines.
