BioRender's version of the classic canvas will be retired on August 21, 2026. After this date, the option to switch back to classic will no longer be available, and all illustrations will open in the new canvas.
Why the classic canvas is being retired
Retiring the classic canvas lets us focus on making the new canvas the best version of BioRender for everyone.
What you need to do
Nothing. This change:
- Will not affect your existing illustrations, files, or projects
- Will not affect your BioRender subscription
- Happens automatically - no action is required on your part
Key dates
- August 21, 2026 - Classic canvas is retired. All users are moved to the new canvas.

- Click the menu icon (top left corner).
- Scroll to the bottom of the menu.
- Select Canvas tutorial or Watch video guide.
- Additionally you can visit How to use the new BioRender canvas for a walkthrough of key features.
