This article will guide you through exporting your illustrations from BioRender, either from the Canvas or your Gallery. It covers how to customize size, resolution, and file format, as well as the available export options for different plans.
File formats available for export
BioRender Basic (Free Plan)
- PNG
- JPG
- 72 DPI resolution
BioRender Premium (Paid Plan)
- PNG (with optional transparent background)
- JPG
- DPI options: 72, 150, 300, and 600*
*600 DPI only available for illustrations, not postersHow to export your image from the canvas
- Click Export from the top-right corner.
- Select your file size, file format and resolution.
- Optional: Check the box “I would like a publication license with this export” if you need one. (Note: Only available for Premium Accounts. Learn more in our Premium Plans article.)
- Click Export. Your image file will download to your default Downloads folder on your local drive.
How to export your image from the gallery
- Locate the illustration in your Gallery and click on the three dots on the illustration you would like to export.
- Click Export.
- Choose your file type and resolution.
- Click Export. The image file will download to your default Downloads folder on your local drive.
Tips for export quality
- Choosing DPI: For high-quality prints, select a higher DPI (150, 300, or 600 DPI). For digital use, 72 DPI is typically sufficient.

- PDF: Recommended for vector-based images and scalable illustrations.
