How to export your classic Graph files and re-import your data into BioRender Graphing

BioRender Graph (classic version) will be retired on September 1st, 2026. This article explains what that means for your existing work, how you can continue to work on your Graph files in BioRender Graphing, and how to find out which members of your team are still using classic Graph.

Before you start

After September 1st, 2026, classic Graph files will no longer be accessible. You have two options for your classic Graph files:

• Option A: Export your graph files from BioRender Graph and re-upload your files to BioRender Graphing - if you want to keep working with them in the new BioRender Graphing tool
• Option B: Export and download your files - if you do not plan to use BioRender Graphing

How to identify if you have a BioRender Graphing or classic Graph file 

You can tell which file type you have by the icon in the top left corner of the file. 

• BioRender Graphing: Files show a teal icon with a bordered bar chart.
• Classic Graph: Files show a grey icon with a white bar chart. 

Files with the grey icon will no longer be accessible after September 1st, 2026.

Who can export Graph files

All BioRender users: You can export all your classic Graph files and ensure they are downloaded. To access and edit the files you can re-upload or drag and drop your data into BioRender Graphing.

If you are seeking to edit files beyond your 1 free file, you will need to purchase the Graphing Add-On.

• If you have your own paid BioRender subscription: start a 14-day free trial in-app, or purchase the Add-On from your account settings
• If you are on an institutional or Enterprise license: contact your BioRender representative to discuss adding the Add-On to your plan
• Free users: the Add-On is not included in free plans - visit biorender.com/product/graphing to learn more

How to find out who on your team is still using classic Graph

If you need to identify which members of your team are still using classic Graph, please contact your BioRender representative or our Support team at support@biorender.com for assistance. 

Export your classic Graph files and re-import your data into BioRender Graphing

Classic Graph files cannot be directly converted to BioRender Graphing files. Adding them into BioRender Graphing is a two-step process: export your data and files from classic Graph, then drag and drop your data into BioRender Graphing and create a new graph.

Step 1: Export your files from classic Graph

1. Navigate to your name on the upper right hand corner of the app and open the drop down. 
2. Select Edit Profile & Settings.
3. Navigate to the “Classic Graph Export” tab.

4. Bulk Export your classic Graph files.

5. Your file will be downloaded as a .zip archive with files inside  data, .png, analysis, .pdf). For each resource you have in a given file, if it is a multiple export (for example all your files) they will be downloaded into a folder.

Step 2: Import your data into BioRender Graphing and create a new graph

1. From your BioRender homepage, click "Create new", then select "Graphing".
2. Drag and Drop your data into BioRender Graphing. Alternatively, upload your data set and select the CSV or Excel file you exported from classic Graph.
3. BioRender Graphing will automatically detect your variables and data structure. 
4. Review the detected variables and adjust any labels if needed.
5. Click Save to confirm your data setup.
6. Create your graphs from the imported data using the build and customize your graphs.

Note: You will not be able to add old graph assets (png or svg) files to BioRender Graphing. 

Step 3: Review and continue your work

• Check that your data looks correct
• Rename variables if needed - click any variable label to edit it directly
• Re-run statistical analyses with built-in guidance to select the right test

Importing from Prism

If you were using Prism files (.prism), you can import those directly into BioRender Graphing - no export step needed. 

• BioRender supports the .prism file format (the newest Prism format).
• Older .pzfx files are partially supported - data will import, but graphs and analyses will not.
• To import a .pzfx file with graphs and analyses intact, re-save it as a .prism file in GraphPad Prism first, then import.

BioRender Graphing will import your data, graphs, and analyses and recreate them in BioRender style. For more information, see this article: How to import your Prism files into BioRender Graphing

What is BioRender Graphing?

BioRender Graphing is a cloud-based scientific data analysis and graphing tool for life science researchers. It supports t-tests, ANOVAs, nonparametric tests, dose-response with global curve fitting and EC50/IC50 (EC/IC) calculations, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, with automatic data formatting, outlier detection, and statistical test recommendations. Graphs are publication-quality from the start, and easy to customize and sync across presentations. Access from any browser and on any device, no installation required.

What happens to my classic Graph files after September 1st, 2026?

After the retirement date, classic Graph files will no longer be accessible. Export your data from classic Graph and import it into BioRender Graphing before the deadline. Data that has not been migrated cannot be recovered after retirement.

Can I import a Prism file directly?

Yes. BioRender Graphing supports direct import of Prism files (.prism). Your data, graphs, and analyses will be imported and recreated in BioRender Graphing. You do not need to export from Prism first.

Is BioRender Graphing included in my current plan?

1 free graphing file is included in every BioRender plan at no extra cost-no Add-On required.

If you want unlimited access, a 14-day free trial of the full Graphing Add-On is available. 

How you access it depends on your plan.

• Individual plans: When you try to create a second graphing file in the app, you'll be invited to start a 14-day free trial automatically. 
• If you are on a Team or Lab plan: For unlimited graphing files, as a team member, your Admin can opt into a 14-day free trial of the BioRender Graphing Add-On. Reach out your Admin to access the trial so it can be applied to your team.
• If you are an Administrator: You can opt into the 14-day Free Graphing Trial through your Plan & Billing tab. Learn more here.
• Important: The trial automatically converts to a paid Graphing Add-On subscription at the end of the 14 days unless you cancel before. If you cancel after creating files during the trial, all but 1 graphing file will no longer be accessible without the paid add-on.
• Free plans: The 14-day trial isn't available on free plans. You still get 1 free graphing file included in your BioRender subscription at no cost.

Who can see classic Graph usage across the team?

Admins can view team-level usage from the Admin Panel (for more information see this article). Individual users can see their own classic Graph files in their Gallery (learn more here on how to identify which files are classic Graph versus Graphing files). 

If you need help identifying who on your team still needs to migrate, ask your admin and they can reach out to our support team for more assistance. Administrators can reach out to their representative or support@biorender.com to identify which members have classic Graph files.
