Adjusting icon opacity can improve the visual clarity of your illustration, especially when layering elements. Making icons more or less transparent allows you to emphasize certain parts of your design while keeping other components in the background.

This article explains how to adjust an icon's opacity using the Transparency slider in BioRender.

Adjust icon opacity

  1. Select the icon you want to modify.
  2. In the side menu, scroll to the bottom to locate the Transparency slider.
  3. Drag the slider:
    • Slide to the left to decrease opacity (make the icon more transparent).
    • Slide to the right to increase opacity (make the icon more opaque).
  4. Click anywhere on the canvas to apply the change.

✨ Pro tip: Adjusting opacity is great for layering elements, but want your figure to blend cleanly into other designs or slides? Transparent background export (available on Premium plans) removes the white box around your illustration. Perfect for clean overlays in PowerPoint or posters. Learn about transparent exports ↗

Locate the transparency slider

The Transparency slider is found at the bottom of the right-hand toolbar (also known as the side menu). Once an icon is selected, the toolbar updates to show properties specific to that object, including the Transparency setting.
