Sometimes, you may not require extra space in the background. Exporting your illustration with a transparent background boosts its versatility. This feature ensures smooth integration into diverse projects, effortlessly adapting to various color schemes and layouts. Such flexibility proves advantageous for a range of design tasks, facilitating the overlay of visuals onto different backgrounds.
Note: This feature is available exclusively for BioRender Premium users.

- Check the Transparent background box.
- Click Export again.
✨ Pro tip: If you’re frequently preparing publication-ready figures or slides, exporting with a transparent background (available on Premium plans) ensures seamless integration across presentations and publications—no background cleanup needed.
Troubleshooting common issues
Why isn’t my file exporting with a transparent background? I still see a grey or black background.
- Check how you're opening the file. Opening it directly in apps like PowerPoint or from your downloads folder might display a temporary dark background.
- This doesn’t mean the file isn’t transparent. Try inserting the image into a program (e.g., PowerPoint) using the Insert Picture function instead of opening it directly.
Why doesn't copy-pasting into another program maintain transparency?
- Copying and pasting may remove the transparent background.
- Instead, upload the image or use the Insert Picture option in the app you're using (e.g., PowerPoint).
