Graphs are a powerful way to display data in BioRender. You can import graphs into illustrations or posters and customize their visual properties without affecting the original file.
Insert a graph directly into an illustration
To add an existing graph to a new or current illustration:
- Open the illustration where you want the graph.
- Click the Graphs icon on the left-hand toolbar.
- Choose the file that contains the graph.
- Select the specific graph you want to import.
- The graph will appear in the center of your canvas.
Copy and paste a graph between illustrations
You can also use standard copy-paste functions to move graphs between projects.
- Open the illustration that contains the graph.
- Select the graph by clicking on it.
- Copy the graph:
- Use Ctrl + C (Windows) or Cmd + C (Mac),
- Or right-click and select Copy.
- Open the new illustration.
- Paste the graph:
- Use Ctrl + V or Cmd + V,
- Or right-click and select Paste.
Note: After pasting or importing, you can still customize aspects of the graph such as:
- Color
- Error bars
- Borders
- Axis titles
Note: You wonβt be able to access or edit the underlying dataset from this view.
Add a graph to a poster
You can insert a graph into a BioRender poster using the same steps as for illustrations.
- Open your poster project.
- Create or select an image section on the poster.
- Click the Image icon to open the gallery.
- Locate the graph file you want to use.
- Select the graph you want to import.
- The graph will be placed in the center of the selected image section.

Edit a graph inside your poster
Once a graph is added to your poster:
- Click the Pen (edit) icon on the graph.
- A pop-up will appear where you can customize:
- Colors
- Labels
- Borders
- Error bars
Important:
- Edits will not affect the original graph file.
- You cannot access or modify the underlying dataset from this pop-up view.
When finished:
- Click Done and your updated graph will appear in your poster.
Note: When importing your graph into a BioRender illustration or poster, you will still be able to edit the aesthetics of the graph (colour, error bars, border, axis titles etc.)
