Does every author in a journal publication require a paid license?

Please follow these guidelines when publishing a BioRender figure.

General Publishing Requirements:

  • All figures intended for publication must be exported with a paid subscription.
  • Generate a Publication License in BioRender, and ensure each figure is cited in the publication using the unique figure URL provided in the Publication License.

Listing Requirements Based on User Type:

License Plan Type Author Listing Requirement
Academic Individual Plan
(Individual, Student, Postdoc)
First, co-first, co-senior or last author
Academic Lab Plan No longer need to be listed
Academic Institutional Plan No longer need to be listed
Industry Individual Plan First, co-first, co-senior or last author
Industry Team Plan No longer need to be listed
Industry Enterprise Plan No longer need to be listed

Academic Individual Student, Postdoc, or Industry Individual License Users: You can publish figures if you have an active subscription and are listed as the first, co-first, co-senior or last author of the publication.

Academic Lab, Institutional, Industry Team, or Enterprise License Users: You do not need to be listed as an author to publish figures.
