Free basic accounts
BioRender offers different plans, each with varying licensing and usage restrictions:

If you wish to use your figures in published works or commercial projects, you will need to subscribe to one of our paid plans (Academic or Industry).

- The watermark must be included in the exported figure with a Basic account.
- A Premium plan (paid Academic or Industry) is recommended for all print users.
- Completed graphics included in any published or printed material, including websites and social media, containing BioRender content as permitted hereunder must include either “Created with BioRender.com” or your unique figure URL depending on your use case. Please review the article, Citing BioRender, for more information on how to cite your figures.

Theses and dissertations

You can use the Basic Plan or 14-day Free Trial to create figures for theses and dissertations that will be uploaded to university libraries or databases. An academic license is required for publishing in journals or wider databases.
Not-for-profit textbooks and chapters
If you will not be gaining any profit from your textbook publication, the following subscription types can be used without incurring additional charges:
- 5 or fewer figures: Requires an Academic Individual, Student, or Postdoc Plan
- 5 to 15 figures: You will require the Academic Lab or the Annual Industry Plan
- Institutional license: Members can publish up to 15 figures.

For-profit textbooks and chapters

An Annual Industry Individual Lite Plan allows you to publish up to 15 figures in a for-profit textbook without incurring additional charges.
Please note that the Monthly Industry Plan cannot be used for this purpose. For more than 15 figures, additional per-figure charges will apply.
Conditions for usage in published works

The figure must be exported on a paid subscription.

Proper citation is required, either with “Created with BioRender.com” or your unique figure URL, depending on your use case. For detailed citation guidance, refer to the article Citing BioRender.
