BioRender's version of the classic canvas was retired on August 21, 2026. The option to switch back to classic will is no longer available. All illustrations will open in the new canvas.
Why the classic canvas was retired
Retiring the classic canvas lets us focus on making the new canvas the best version of BioRender for everyone.
What you need to do
Nothing. This change:
- Will not affect your existing illustrations, files, or projects
- Will not affect your BioRender subscription
- Happens automatically - no action is required on your part
Key dates
- August 21, 2026 - Classic canvas was retired. All users have been moved to the new canvas.

- Click the menu icon (top left corner).
- Scroll to the bottom of the menu.
- Select Canvas tutorial or Watch video guide.
