Creating custom brush colors

📝 Note: This article reflects the classic BioRender canvas. For guidance on the updated experience, check out our article on the new canvas to explore key features and updates in the latest version.

Customizing brush colors in BioRender allows for clearer highlighting, better visual distinction in your figures, and more control over your illustration style.

If you need to highlight the brush tool in BioRender, follow these steps for a detailed workaround:

  1. Insert Your Brush:

    • Place your brush on the canvas.
  2. Use the Insert Shape Tool:

    • Select the "Insert Shape" tool from the toolbar.
    • Choose a round shape for more control over resizing.
  3. Reshape the Shape you have chosen:

    • Adjust the shape to match the contours of your brush.
    • Increase the transparency of the shape to better see how it aligns with the brush.
  4. Resize and Adjust Nodes:

    • Resize the shape by stretching and adjusting the nodes.
    • Delete unnecessary nodes to refine the shape's edges:
      • Right-click on a node and select "Delete Node" to make the shape sharper.
  5. Zoom In:

    • Zoom in on the canvas to make precise adjustments.
  6. Adjust the Shape:

    • Continue resizing and reshaping the shape until it matches the brush.
  7. Add Color:

    • Give the shape your desired color to highlight the brush.
  8. Adjust Transparency:

    • Adjust the transparency to your liking, making the shape more or less transparent.
  9. Customize the Border:

    • Adjust the border (stroke) of the shape:
      • Match the border size to the brush or set it to zero for a uniform shape.
  10. Finalize the Highlight:

    • Center the shape over the brush and make any final adjustments.
