The color picker (eyedropper) tool allows you to change the color of shapes, lines, backgrounds, and text. It helps you:
- Select an exact color from an object on the canvas.
- Match a predefined color palette, such as your organization’s brand guidelines.
- Maintain consistency with your icon colors.
This guide will show you how to use the color picker to adjust fill, border, and text colors.
Changing an object's fill or border color
Changing fill color
To change the fill color of an object or line:
- Select the shape you’d like to edit.
- In the left-side properties panel, click Fill Color to open the color menu, then select Color Picker.
- Hover over an object to view its color. The color preview window in the top-right corner will display the selected color.
- Click the object to apply the color to your selected shape or line.
- Press ESC on your keyboard or click off the canvas to exit Color Picker mode.
Changing border color
To change the border color of a shape:
- Select the shape you’d like to edit.
- In the left-side properties panel, click Stroke Color to open the color menu, then select Color Picker.
- Hover over an object to view its color. The color preview window in the top-right corner will display the selected color.
- Click the object to apply the color to the shape’s border.
- Press ESC on your keyboard or click off the canvas to exit Color Picker mode.
Changing text color
To change the text color:
- Select the text you’d like to edit.
- In the left-side properties panel, click the color square to open the menu, then select Color Picker.
- Hover over an object to view its color. The color preview window in the top-right corner will display the selected color.
- Click the text to apply the new color.
- Press ESC on your keyboard or click off the canvas to exit Color Picker mode.
Note: The color picker tool cannot be used to change icon colors, including PDB images. To change an icon’s color, see this article.
Troubleshooting
If you experience issues while using the color picker tool, try the following:
- Color Picker is not selecting colors correctly – Ensure that you are hovering over the object completely and that it is not transparent.
- Fill or Stroke Color options are not visible – Confirm that the object is selected before accessing the properties panel.
- ESC key is not exiting Color Picker mode – Try clicking off the canvas or selecting a different tool.
